Melanie Dessommes DiFeo, LCSW

Hi there, I'm Melanie

2023April_EPS_Headshots_MDessommes-12-FI

I specialize in working with adults and adolescents navigating life transitions, self-worth challenges, and confidence issues. My clinical focus includes supporting individuals through complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and grief. Together we will collaborate in a safe and trusted space to tap into the problems you are facing. I use proven techniques to help you improve your thought patterns, your emotional responses, discover and express your feelings, and heal your inner self.

In my training, I worked in medical settings to help people with depression, anxiety, complex trauma, and substance use disorders. I'm trained in Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Object Relations, and Psychodynamic Relational Therapy.

I assisted older adults during the height of the pandemic to ease their chronic social isolation and connected them to resources.

In my understudies at St. Francis College, I advocated for people who were formerly incarcerated and addressed the barriers of reentry to society. I advocated to, "Ban the Box," and highlighted statistical systemic discrimination injustices of the college and employment applications. Through these initiatives in 2015, I removed the application question from a SFC student application, "have you ever been convicted of a felony?" Questions like this deter people from applying to employment, education, and government assistance programs when they should have access and need access.

I completed my Master's degree in clinical social work from New York University. I graduated summa cum laude from St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights, with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.

My life commitment is to continue to learn how to support others and to not lose the spirit of the unknown. This pathway takes intentional curiosity for a client to be heard. The learning space is endless.

I am deeply grateful for the love and support I have encountered in my professional and personal relationships.
